Yesterday we had my Father and step-mother over for dinner. They are conservative christian folk and for some reason I got talking to them about the Powa teaching that I attended. My wife eyed me nervously as I started to explain the idea of transference of consciousness. So I started on a different tack. I said when you think about dying you think you are going to be with Jesus right. They both agreed. I said it is the very same thing. I left it at that realizing they didn’t need to know all of the visualizations and about maitreya buddha and all of that stuff. For me it was a realization as well. The heart of compassion is where it is the same thing for Christians and buddhists.
My wife is from a Jewish background and so has issues with all of this christmas stuff. Recently, we were talking about the nativity story. She was saying I just don’t believe Jesus was magical. I said his birth story is a fantastic story, all great teachers have auspicious births. Jesus’ story is no different then the Zen teachers or the Lamas and so on and so on.
